Hi Tim,

My wife and I had IVF and now have a beautiful daughter, though we named her
Esme, not Minolta......

Seriously, I have a 4F and a 5 and have used 2, 3, 3F and 4 (and several
other makes).

IME, they are reliable and consistent, though they underexpose at the
factory setting. I have about +0.5 exposure compensation permanently set.

I suspect you will find the camera spot meter more useful than the 5 degree
attachment, unless you need to measure reflected flash.

In fact, unless you use a lot of non-auto flash, you may not find a separate
meter of much use, especially as it is undoubtedly slower to use. I.e:
meter, then transfer the reading to the camera, then take another because
the sun's just dipped behind a cloud, etc.

If you are mixing flash and ambient, the 4 or 5 are better, IMO, as the give
an analogue readout of the mix. However, they are bigger and heavier.

Under "normal" subject, "normal" lighting, I don't EVER recall experiencing
a difference of over 2 stops from the camera. So I'd check this sample
carefully.

FWIW, on the last 2 occasions when the difference was about 1 stop, the
camera was better!!!!

HTH
