Hmm. Presumably you'd still want to use existing EF lenses. Assuming the image circle is just big enough for 24x36mm�, it would also be big enough for... little under 31x31mm� square. Which would you prefer, if Canon offered two digital bodies: one with 24x36mm� and one with 31x31mm� sensor? Of course they could also produce one with 31x36mm� sensor, letting user choose either 24x36 or 31x31 format, or even a 36x36mm� sensor, which would allow switching between vertical and horizontal shots without turning the camera... I suspect either would make the camera too big and too expensive to be profitable.
