Jim, I started from the beginning to shoot with RAW and although the workflow is slower (even more on my slow PC), the results are really great. My current practice is to get the highlights right and if the shadows are too closed I'd produce a digital "pushed" version with the DEX (Digital exposure compensation) on the raw file and combine both in photoshop using simple feathered masks. It doesn't work always as sometimes it leaves bright halos arround, but with some work you get some results. Here's one image I finished yesterday: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1604621
(feedback welcome, as I'm just starting with digital and appreciate any further lesson) I did buy the Fred Miranda action, thinking it'd do something better, but to my disappointment, it just does what I'm used to do, and I get better results, as the "shadow" selection of photoshop can be very broad in range and sometimes selects darker spots within highlight, creating patches all arround. I also downloaded the "intelligent sharp" but I haven't tried it yet. Another thing I particulary like of Raw files is the ability to apply changes to the white balance afterwards. I'm using the K setting (manual) but my color temperature meter (eye) isn't always that accurate :-) :-) Actually I found that my left eye is 'colder' than my right. Funny, he? -regards, Gerard. * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
