I am setting up a high speed flash setup and want to be able to control all flashes manually so TTL is not in the plan. Wireless manual is a possibility , but I don't want to buy 2 more 550ex's.
So... My plan as of now is to use the 550ex via wired pc manual, and use the optical slave to trigger the sunpack flashes which fill out the setup. -----Original Message----- From: NK Guy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 17, 2003 12:19 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: EOS 550ex w/optical slave On Thursday, July 17, 2003, at 03:30 AM, Austin, Joe (IMS) wrote: > Has anyone had success firing a 550ex on manual with an optical slave > trigger? > > I have a Wein Peanut , it fires the flash once then must be > disconnected > and reconnected in order to flash again. I did some searching on the > web and found the problem is fairly common. Canon Speedlites aren't designed to be triggered by optical slaves and most people find that they generally lock up after each flash as you've described. One way around this is to use the Ikelite Lite-Link, which reportedly works well and supports Canon TTL to boot. Having said that, I think it makes most sense to use the 550EX with wireless E-TTL assuming you have a type A camera body. I'd only use optical slaves for non-dedicated flash units, personally. http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/index2.html#slave - NK Guy * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
