I had my 1000S repaired by a guy here in Japan very cheaply. He did a
nice job. He said he could not do a 10 because they are very
complicated. I believe him, cause when mine had that problem severely
I might add, I took it apart and tried myself. You need to really
disassemble the entire camera.

I haven't heard of any Elan IIs having this problem, and not many if
any original Elans. But the 1000, rebels, and 10 all definitely have
this problem sooner or later.

And as you say, early EOS 600 series have it, but they too can be
pretty easily repaired.

I'd stay away from those that suffer this problem.

The Elan II or 50 are nice cameras. I have a black 55, which has the
panorama feature. I will likely sell it soon though, it's a shame to
waste this camera, and I can keep my old 1000S. It's not likely I will
be shooting any more film, might as well face up to it.

The 10 was a real nice camera too, but mine didn't have many rolls put
through it, it's an age thing so of course they are all breaking down
now with this problem.

Depending on what you need, and what you'll pay, the EOS 5, or A2E is
real nice too. They go for a good buck in nice shape though and don't
take the latest flashes. I haven't heard of them having the problem
either.
