On that note, does anyone know of somewhere to download an EOS1000 series
service manual from? I have one here with super goo that I have cleaned
previously without disassembly, but the goo came back.

I would like to have a tinker inside the camera and address the goo at it's
source. Any suggestions?

Thanks and regards,
