Marco: Sorry to hear about the problem. I'm afraid I can't compare the Canon to the Sigma, but I can say that the Canon lens is exceptional. And yes, the IS is worth a lot if you freqently shoot either hand-held or on a monopod. If you usually shoot with a tripod, then it's probably not worth the expense. Not sure about the 2X, but I think it probably will fit, as the 70-200 is designed to accept the protruding front of the Canon 2x. Optical performance is an unkown, however. If the Sigma 2X has a protruding front, measure and post the diameter. I can check later this weekend and see if that will fit the Canon lens.
