Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I have decided to try to "manufacture" my own lens hood.
I've tried projecting a halogen desklight through the viewfinder of my 10D with the 17-40L attached (set to 17mm). This has been done in a dark room. I put my 200 2.8L lens hood on (ET-83BII) and it projects the petal shapes on the inside of the lens hood. I thought of using the ET-83C hood - indeed this shows even better shading of the front element, but it is too long to carry this hood reversed on the 17-40L as it bumps into the 10D body. I'll try to cut this shape out this weekend. I'm not really sure what to use to try to cut the plastic lens hood. I think I'll try to get a rough shape with some fine saw, then file the rest down with some various shaped files. I've got some black felt picked up from a felt vendor in Sydney which is only about 0.5mm thick, and self-adhesive. This probably would make a pretty good anti-reflection layer on the inside of this hood. I'll tell you all how I go. Comments. Suggestions. Welcome. Greg Au PS If I fail, I'll get the 24/1.4L lenshood (EW-83DII) that Gary suggested. * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
