Hi Greg,

That's quite ingenious projecting the light that way - with a film camera I've looked 
through the open film back to check filter vignetting and so forth (which you 
obviously can't do with the 10D!).    I guess the only thing to take into account is 
the viewfinder cropping factor of 90+% (or so), but a few test shots will quickly show 
where it needs further trimming.

I suspect you'll end up with a slightly deeper hood than the EW-83DII - it apparently 
will also work on the EOS 1D (1.3x crop) with only slight vignetting (or alternatively 
only slight mods required to the hood).  In any case it's a lot better on the 10D than 
the standard 35mm format hood, and much easier to fit in the bag too... 

Incidentally, when I bought my hood, the price originally quoted was AU$60 or so, but 
the actual cost was only AU$14.80 - a price the shop checked against their invoice.  
Maybe Canon Oz made a mistake with that one as nearly every other hood they sell costs 
at least AU$40, but I'm not complaining!
