Just wondering....has any manufacturer ever released a more narrow lens hood to compensate for the smaller chip-size of most digicams?
Using the default full-size hood means that unnecessary stray light enters the edges, in particular with exposed/bulging/sunlight-
vulnerable wide angles.

Hi Willem Jan,

while I think it would be good to have such specialized lens hoods,
this would open a can of worms. This would mean hoods for each and every
sensor size available with EOS mount cameras. I think it's unlikely
to happen. Especially now, that camera technology and industries are
obviously changing their product cycles from the (comparatively) slow
cycles of the analog past to the incredible fast cycles that seem to
be typical for electronic products. The real innovations that justify
a new model new sensors right now, not so much faster AF or other useful
improvements.

Will the EOS 1Ds be as long the top model of the (digital) EOS line as
the the EOS 1 or 1N was in the past? I guess not. I give it another
year or two, then we will have a new top of the line model. Even more
so in the 2nd and 3rd line of EOS models. Sensor sizes and number of
pixels will change fairly often, maybe until 35mm format size is common
again (hopefully) and the pixel number reaches the limit imposed by optical
restrictions.
