The LaCie Electron Blue monitors are highly regarded (
http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10037 ) and based on a
Mitsubishi CRT. They have calibrating meters and software available.

The new Sony Artisan series of monitors have become well regarded too (
http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_ParametricSearch-Start;sid=AvhT7k2NcY9T3XIlI8pZ5QKcC881difJI7w=
)

Other than that, the sharper and newer the monitor, the better.

In color-critical environments, monitors are swapped out every 2 to 3
years because their color capabilities fade.
