Thanks Peter. Looking at current prices in the rags, it looks like I could
pick up a 10D for $1,050, and a DRebel for $850. If I were to buy, with
prices such as these, I think I would go with the 10D. I would add a 1GB CF
card to bring my total to about $1,250, and if we do plan for a vacation
next year, I would probably want to get more CF cards, or a portable disk
based CF reader/storage device.

I currently shoot with my IIe, and by the way I love the electronic eye,
then have film developed and I scan it myself with a film scanner. It works
well enough, but for the fact that I can't instantly see the picture I've
taken. Since I'm an amateur trying to learn, it is much more difficult to
associate changes in settings to particular pictures, because frankly by the
time I get to seeing the pictures, I've forgotten what I did.

I'm not quite sure, however, that for the number of pictures I take, say a
roll a week plus the occasional trips and/or special occasions, I can
justify the cost of the upgrade, especially since I still haven't learned a
fraction of the feautre set of the ELAN IIe. On the other hand, not having
to change film rolls, and being able to instantly see what various features
do might help me learn.

So, is $1200-1500 worth an upgrade from film to digital?

Tas

does with a few minor exceptions but with a $600 savings you wouldn't
notice. The only noticeable item is flash exposure compensation that you
would set on the camera body. But with a flash like a 550EX, you can set
this on the flash itself.
