I'm not quite sure, however, that for the number of pictures I take, say
a
roll a week plus the occasional trips and/or special occasions, I can
justify the cost of the upgrade, especially since I still haven't
learned a
fraction of the feautre set of the ELAN IIe. On the other hand, not
having
to change film rolls, and being able to instantly see what various
features
do might help me learn.

So, is $1200-1500 worth an upgrade from film to digital?

Tas,

Well, that is a hard decision when you cannot financially justify it.
Especially when you realize that in 2 years the digital body you are
using will be obsolete, so to speak. There is also rumor of a new EOS
Digital for early next year that will be at the price point of the 10D
but withj substantially better features. But this is still a rumor.

Still a film user.

Isn't that the same problem as with buying a PC? If you wait for the next best thing,
you would never buy one. I figured that at $15 per roll (for the film, development and
CD), it would take 60 rolls to break even. So at one roll per week, it would take 15
months to break even. In 15 months they will have a much better camera for the same
price, but if the 300D is good enough now, would it not be good enough in 15 months?
Any shots done after 15 months would be "free" ...

Now if you get prints with the film you develop, then the break even period would be
shorter of course (even though you would have no 4x6 prints with the digital).
Personally I don't like 4x6 and like doing enlargements to frame and display so a 300D
might make more sense for me. And if you are like me and shoot 10-15 rolls on
vacation, then it will take even less time to break even. And instead of ordering
re-prints, I can burn the "best of" on CD and mail to relatives and they can print the
ones they want ... instead of sending them 4x6s.

Sorry to ramble on so much ... and it is still a less expensive hobby than
boating/flying/racing or something like that :)
