I was mostly using my 28-135 IS with 300D, even though I had 50/1.8 with me as well. I 
almost never used the 18-55 lens that comes with it. Only when I really needed the 
"true" 28mm. And that was travel photography. 

What is interesting is that at the same time as I bought 300D, I bought a really cheap 
Sigma 70-300 APO. And I have to tell you, that for 170 USD that I paid for it (new) it 
is well worth it. AF is frustrating, but you just switch it to manual and off you go.
