All indications are that the 100-400L is not as sharp as the 70-200, BUT it
is sharper than the 70-200 with a 2x converter.  I'm assuming you mean the
70-200 f2.8, there is a 70-200 f4L also.
Focus speed on the 100-400 is pretty slow, remember there's a lot of mass in
there to move.
Another negative about the 100-400 is that it is a push/pull zoom design,
one that I for one am a little less than thrilled with...
