What are the members of this forum using to download images off of CF cards while in the field? Currently I lug a laptop around, and offload from the CF card to hard disk in the evening. But I'm going to Japan later this year, and don't really want to lug a notebook computer all over the place.
So what would you recommend, and why? What would you definitely NOT recommend, for what reasons?
How important do you feel the ability to preview the images on the device is, as opposed to just store them? Does your recommended device support raw files (to display, not just store)?
I use my 30GB iPod with the Belkin Media adapter. I feel I only need storage since I previewed the pics on the camera anyway. when I get home I connect the iPod to the computer with a FireWire cable and I get lightning fast transfer of the images onto the computer's hard drive. Very simple. I only have about 12 GB of music on the iPod so that leaves plenty of room for pictures.
