I don't think it will replace the 75-300IS. Rather it fills the
gap between the 75-300IS and the 100-400L IS.
Given the number of non-IS lenses in the same range, I should
think there's room in the market for three IS ones in there.

The optical quality of the 70-300DO is still uncertain, but
if it is comparable to the 100-400L, I think it will be a winner.
I've been traveling with the 100-400 and cursing its size and weight,
and with the 75-300IS and cursing its lack of FTM, slow focusing
and softness at the long end; the 70-300IS sounds like just the
ticket, unless it turns out to be a lemon optically.

Thus I'd expect the price to drop somewhat but stay well above
the 75-300IS. But only time will tell.
