I think it's good to apply variation in cropping more than most people do. It makes some images more interesting, and our portfolios more interesting.
Completely in agreement here. Some of my favorite shots are almost square. The cropping/framing really should be suited to the particular content of each shot, IMO. Not that I can't go to a gallery and appreciate the many ways a person treats one format, kind of like appreciating the variety in the many Minuets of Bach, Rondos of Scarlatti or Blues of BB King.
