For exact & precise movements, as well as the priceless feature of 
self-locking, consider the Manfrotto geared head (3 models available, 
if you need anything larger see the unobtanium model from 
Arriflex....:))

Perhaps also interesting, if you objects demand faster adjustments, 
is their new quick-release head....basically the same concept as the 
old one, but not that silly large height (amplifying every 
vibration).
