I'm betting someone here has experience with this, and I don't have an easy way of making the comparison myself. I'm really curious as to how a digital image projected onto a screen with a media projector, powerpoint or whatever, compares with a chemical slide projected with a traditional projector. Is there the same sense of luminosity (one of the great things about slides IMO)? Is there a significant difference in image degradation at these large sizes? Any other comments welcome.

We have some really expensive projectors at the office for presentations, and we occasionally use those for slide shows. I also use a Leica slide projector with an excellent 90/2.5 Colorplan lens, which is mostly used to project the slides I shoot, mostly Velvia, EBX or Provia 100F. The projection distance is around 5-8 metres. To my audience, the projected slides are far superior to the digital projector. They are sharper, and much smoother at the same time, due to the lack of pixels. The folks here say that the projected slides are almost like the real thing, but the digital projection doesn't feel so real.

Maybe if they upgrade to a $10,000 projector.. :) then it may match my
$200 slide projector?
