Henry I was there a few weeks ago with my daughter for the marathon. If you can't get a vehicle, take a tour to the Portage Glacer. It's a motor coach ride to the lake and a cruise to the face of the glacer and you may see eagles, dall sheep, beluga whales, moose, perhaps even a bear or two. Anchorage reminds me of 1850's Dodge City with electricity. Excellent food and great beer. Security at the airport when you are leaving is a real pain. Probably the most inconsiderate and time consuming, very frustrating...allow lots of time when you are leaving. Grant Westerson
