I tried sending this yesterday, but it
didn't appear in the digest, so here it
goes again .....

When film was my primary recording
medium I always had at least 2 SLR
bodies to allow for multiple film types
- different ISO, emulsions, B&W/colour.
Also meant I could have different lenses
fitted at the same time and that I had a
backup in case one malfunctioned. I did
that for 20+ years.

With the change to digital, I've only had
one digital body at a time (mostly due to
cost...). However I've found that the
ability to change ISO on the fly, plus the
ability to create B&W and other effects
directly from the digital image have meant
that I haven't had the same need to buy a
2nd digital body. I carried a spare film
body for a while until I realised I hadn't
shot a single frame in months, so I no
longer own a film EOS. Just a 10D.

What's the consensus - has that been an
issue for others? I guess on a trip I'd be
happy to get a cheap backup body to take
with me (but not to carry everywhere -
just leave it in the car / hotel in case I
have problems with my main camera).

So that leaves (to me) the advantage of
less changing of lenses. Not that big a
deal *most* times. Given that the backup
body I'd want would also be digital (a cheap
one if such an animal exists - maybe in the
not too distant future?), I've spent the money
on glass instead. Not carrying 2 bodies means
I can either travel lighter or carry an extra
lens or two.

Pro usage of course would be different to my
amateur requirements....

Opinions anyone?

Cheers
Gary
