I've been using hahnel bp-511 equivalent batteries in my 300d for a while I've
had no problems and have had noticably longer battery life (the batteries are
higher capacity) with two in the grip battery life is very very good.

I was initially not certain about using 3rd party batteries but
www.warehouseexpress.com had an offer which had the battery and charger on
offer for half the price of a canon bp-511. It's certainly so far turned out
to be a compelte bargain.
