I have four of the generic batteries from a couple of different sources
that I use in my 10D's. No problems. Nor have I heard of any
problems.

One thing that did worry me was the possibility of a cheap battery that
worked fine......until it gave up the ghost while leaking chemicals all
up inside my expensive camera (happened to me with cheap alkalines,
ruined a marantz tape recorder). I decided to use the generics in the
bp pack accessory. But I have never heard of this happening with
lithium ion.

Is there any reason *not* to use generic BP-511 li-ion batteries in a
Canon 10D? I see 1600mAh capacity ones there for less than $10.
