is essentially a replica of the image "as the sensor
saw it" (ie highly dependent on sensor arrangement),
plus other settings and information in the header. The
body will determine the "characteristic of the
sensor". This is the reason you need to have seperate
support for each body type in say, Capture One. If
different bodies use the same sensor type then the
support is more widespread for that particular RAW
format.
To exemplify, the FOVEON sensor, is *radically*
different from the Canon sensor. Hence the RAW format
for FOVEON would be drastically different from that of
Canon. Another example, the Sony sensor has more green
pixels than regular Bayer sensor. The S2 sensor has a
very different arrangement than the regular Bayer.
Each will have a different RAW format thus. How will
DNF accumulate those and many more possible
combinations ? That is why perhaps, the focus of DNF
is to translate and archive - not replace existing RAW
formats.

That is entirely possible, as long as the camera
manufacturers will translate their RAW pixel info to
DNF on the fly and give that as output instead of RAW.
Again, if DNF has a deficiency, information may be
lost in that process.
Also, Adobe may come to rely on the popularity of DNF
concept to force manufacturers to provide conversion
utilities for each new body type released.
