Roof preferably white. 4. Shoot. 5. Check photo. If there are white walls, they may cause a flash overexposure. If overexposed, reduce FEC by 1 stop. Thats all there is to it. This works for me 100% at home at any time of the day - morning shots with ambient window light, night shots with no lights. If I can't bounce off a wall, I'll try bouncing off something else, even my outstreched palm (looks funny). Theoretically, I don't have control over DoF since I'm not paying attention to the Av. In real life, I discovered that it doesn't make so much of a difference.
