I'm trying to purchase the above Tripod Mount Ring for an EF 100mm 2.8
macro lens.

Gary,

You want Tripod Mount Ring B (B) - B describing the type of fitting and (B)
describing the colour: black.

I posted this on March 1st 2002 and it may help you save some money:

"F.Y.I., tripod collar adapter (Canon PART number YG2 - 0500 NOT AN
ACCESSORY) will allow the use of tripod collar type B (standard on many
L lenses) with 100 f/2.8 USM Macro. The adapter fits neatly onto the lens
locating at three detents. The tripod collar fits over the adapters four
lugs in the same way as it would on a lens. Smoothness of rotation is
compromised but otherwise it works very well."

Ah interesting.... I have a tripod collar B on my 70-200 f/2.8L ;-) Is that the collar you're talking about - it's labelled Tripod Mount Ring B (W)?

Off to the archives now!

Thanks
Gary
