Back on topic, if Canon could figure out a way to require a consumable "camera juice" they'd require every camera to do it in a minute.
There is no way, that the printer manufacturers are going to trade a higher price for the printer for lower priced ink. Their goal, like a drug-pusher's, is to get you addicted to their brand and hook you on buying ink for life.
The good news is that pro printers with their larger ink tanks have lower cost per print than the amateur. Unfortunately, you do need to be able to invest in those big tanks of ink.
