Bob, thanks for that info about the 20D. I did actually buy a 20D about 2 months ago and think it a great camera. I'm totally amateur so am still learning digital, but I've had an AE-1 for years and a B&W darkroom. Having fun with this camera and my Mac. I didn't know about the firmware problem but have 1.1.0 and no problems. There is a new firmware version (2.0.0; for wireless transmission) at:
 <http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/eos20d/eos20d_firmware-e.html>
I did know about the battery grip but I'm unlikely to get the battery grip; would probably just get a second battery but see no need for it yet. If this is it, I think I'm in good shape, Thanks.

I was curious about what the problems are with the
20D.

Since no one adressed this question, I will...

When the 20D was first released there was a bug in the
firmware that caused the camera to lock up at
unpredictable times. And the first firmware upgrade
had a bug that caused it to fail during the upgrade
process in a few cases, rendering those cameras into
doorstops (but Canon repaired or replaced them). The
current firmware work fine, as far as I know.

The battery grip for the 20D has it's own set of
problems. It doesn't fit tightly to the camera,
causing poor electrical contact between grip and body.
Canon's announced a fix and repair program for this
problem, too, although no one seems to know exactly
what the fix will be. The grip also doesn't work worth
a darn with AA batteries.

Other than that, I'm not aware of any significant
problems. Oh, if you go to DPReview you'll find
people complaining about back focus, poor flash
performance and other things, but the people at
DPReview complain about EVERYTHING.

The 20D is a fine camera, the most capable in it's
class, and you shouldn't hesitate to buy one.
