If you didn't mind the time/work flow required to have to first convert the
RAW file to .tiff format with the Canon supplied program then to .jpg format
using some other photo editing program, then you don't need to shoot
RAW+JPG.

But if you need JPG files quickly after a session, then that's where setting
RAW+JPG comes in handy.

For what it's worth, (and I'm sure I'll get some flame for saying this), of
the 25,000 frames I shot since getting the 1D Mk 2 a year ago, only 50 or so
were shot with RAW setting on, and that is only because I know I need every
pixel to contain useful information for these particular shots, the rest of
them were all done with Large JPG format only with the default quality
setting at 8 out of 10, I've sold many prints from these JPG files,
including some printed up to 20"x30" and they still looked pretty
impressive.

On average, these shots usually take about 2 MB per JPG image at ISO 100 or
200, where the RAW files range between 6 to 9 MB per image depending on ISO
setting.
