Michael,

I have the Tokina 28-70 and it's fine. Built much better than the
plastic 28-80. However, having said that, neither can compare to the EF
24-70 which I now use. This lens has got to be the best all-rounder for
portraiture, especially on my 1DmkII. If you're shooting weddings, the
brighter viewfinder image at 2.8 will mean a lot in dark churches. The
new 24-105 sounds groovy but it's a walkabout lens. The 24-70 is a dream
for faces and groups. I'd give you a dozen Tokinas for every one of the
EF 24-70.
