Subject: EOS 100/2.8 vs 180/3.5 macro

Probably an oldie but goldie, but here goes:

I used to have a 100 mm macro lens for my Contax system and am
considering getting something similar for my 10D. I'm somewhat torn
between the 100/2.8 macro and the 180/3.5 macro. I'm aware of the
obvious tradeoff regarding price.

Hi Tom,

Regarding price...
Last week's "Amateur Photographer" compared the three 180mm macro lenses
(Canon EF, Sigma & Tamron) for the EF fitting. There was a very slight tilt
towards the Tamron 180 as giving slightly more contrasty results at the
lower spacial frequencies (it's a newer designed lens), and cost wise it's a
lot less than what Canon ask for their 180.
