CF cards are on the whole very reliable. Using the move is the same as selecting and deleting the files and will eventually cause failure sooner than reformat to erase the card. That said, 100,000 writes is a lot and I'm not sure of all the techniques now used to avoid rewriting the same flash cells. So, it may not make any difference with the latest generation cards. With my 5D camera, I find reformatting is often faster than the erase all. Erasing the card, like your disk drive, does not really remove the data, rather it just changes a few status bits in the file management.
