I agree with that things can go bad in the destination
media. I think I misunderstood your earlier response
to mean that something can go wrong in the source
media while doing a move - I have come to view current
generation hard disks to be infinitely (or maybe
vastly is a better term) more reliable than current
generation flash storage media.

That said, the same argument can be extended that even
after the "destination verified, source reformatted"
option, the destination can *still* go bad. 

The only sure way to address this would be to ideally
go in for a RAID (redundancy/Real time mirror)
solution. If not then at least a backup to a CD/DVD
before formatting the source - for absolute peace of
mind.

Probably, but the odds of destination media failure at
some point after the format or during the move
happening are still the same I would think.
