I'd suggest getting the 24-105.
I'm using a 20D and had a 24-70L/2.8 lens which I replaced with a
24-105L/4. My main reason for switching lenses was I found myself
shooting at the 70 end fairly often and wished I had a little extra reach.
I also own a 16-35L/2.8 that I rarely use and a 100-400L for long
distance work (skiing, racing, etc.). The 24-105 has become my most
often used lens.
