Subject: EOS 1Ds vs 5D

OK, here's a question...
Has anybody made a comparison between the image quality of the original 11.1Mp EOS 1Ds and the 12.8Mp EOS 5D. On the used market, the prices of the two bodies are not that far apart (the 1Ds has depreciated drastically from it's original $7,995 selling price).
Mr. Bill

Hi Mr Bill,

I have the 5D, and I've been using it for bird photography where the reputedly better (or much better?) AF of the 1 series looks attractive, so I've been doing some comparisons recently. (Main lens - EF 300 f2.8L plus extenders.) In addition to John Chennavasin's points, I understand that the 1Ds does not have an orientation sensor, and that its image review features after shooting aren't as good as later models. Seem to remember some suggestions of banding as well, but every model seems to attract these criticisms at some time or other.

(I have an EOS 3 and in some tests its AF beats my 5D handsomely - in others, it's difficult to tell any difference, so I'm struggling to decide whether adding a 1D MkIIN to my 5D is worth it for my hobby usage!)
