Au contraire mon frere. I find the 1.3 crop an excellent aid to getting a fast 2.8 long-ish lens. I'm thinking of the venerable 70-200 2.8 L IS, which I'm considering gluing to my 1DmarkII. If ever there was a lens designed for a camera, that pair is it. Of course wide angles suffer on the 1DmII, with a notable exception - because the 1D / 1DmII / 1DmIII crop in on the image, you lose the edges that often contain poor performance, especially at wide apertures. In a month or so I will be picking up a 24mm 1.4 and I suspect that will match very nicely with the 1DmII. In an ideal world, a 1DsmIII on one shoulder and a 1DmIII on the other would be pretty neat, and keep the chiropractor happy (balance the load ;-) and in a year or two I might end up doing that. The 1DmII is an amazing piece of technology, and simply a damn good camera. I have no preference to part with it in favour of the mark III. And not in favour of a full frame camera either. In support of, but not in favour of. *hic* (some Australian chardonnotonightdarling) Sounds like you're just making an inroads into Canon DSLR-land. If you want full frame and reasonable performance, you'll probably like the 5D. Personally I wouldn't have anything less than a 1D. I migrated from Pentax manual focus film in 2002 to a Canon D60. I very nearly went with a bashed-up original used 1D. If I could do it again, I would save myself a year of frustration with the D60 and go with the 1D. The focus performance alone would have sold it to me. Have you seen a decent print from a 4MP 1D? Astonishingly good. I'm babbling.
