Depends on your needs. For me no. The EOS 5D is a full frame. Great for wide
angles. The 30D and potential 40D are half frame. Better suited to telephoto
applications. I do have the 10-22mm Canon lens which is the eequivalent of a
16-35mm but that is as wide as you can go with a smaller sensor camera. You
can get a 12-24mm full frame Sigma which is really a 12mm on a 5d and wider.

On the other hand, the pixels density of the 30D and potentially the 10MP 40D
is greater than the 5D. You have more pixels covering the same area of an image
taken side-by-side and framed identically. More pixels means more detail of
smaller parts of the image. That being the case you could theoretically crop
more of a 40D image and with more pixels yield a print that would be clearer
than that of the 5D. But then again, no one buys anything larger than 11x14
these days anyway, so its a moot point. And for the record, more pixels is
useful here whereas a P&S with more pixels is
not as the image sensor of the P&S are so small its not a good comparison.

Subject: EOS A slightly silly query

This is a bit of a weird question but I'd like a
feeling from the group. If the the awaited 40d was
avialable today with 10 meg and anti dust, would some
still consider the 5D? The resolution and build of the
5D looks excellent. but no dust removal and no flash.
I suppose if you are at the 5D level you are not
supposed to want a pop up flash but I do like them. If
you were using the 5D in a walk around situation(
travel, journalism etc.) would you consider the small
220 flash on the camera all the time for fill when
needed ? It would serve just that purpose since the
580 does more but is much larger.

Thanks.
