Gripes: still has the toy auto-depth mode, rather than the proper depth
mode that helped me to decide to buy EOS to start with.  Why it can't be
at least switchable on a custom function, I can't imagine.

Makes two of us ... the official word was that the "real" DEP mode required
too much ROM space, and that hardly anyone used it anyway.  What's far less
excusable is the absence of any DEP mode on the 5D, 1D Mk III, and 1Ds Mk III.

The "real" DEP was a significant factor in my decision to switch to Canon
years ago--it made Canon the only manufacturer to offer any systematic
control of DoF with AF lenses.  Now, sadly, like all others, Canon have
been overcome by the body snatchers.
