I've heard (but not tested) that 4Gb cards are inherently slower than 2Gb
cards, perhaps due to cluster sizes or other factors.

Since the CF card, or actually any storage media is an array there has
to be logic in the media to keep track of what is where and where there
is free space large enough to store the current image.
I wonder how much time storing each image is spent on looking this up.
