Last night my 20D suddenly stopped functioning. I could hear the
mirror just slapping up and down. I turned the camera off and it
still kept going. Removed the battery, which stopped the problem
until I replaced the battery. Switched the battery and it still
continued. I left the battery out overnight, but as soon as I
inserted the battery abck into the camera (with the power off), the
mirror slapped a few times. I turned the camera on and confirmed that
none of the menus or other functions will operate. The top screen
either shows a flashing empty battery (battery has just been recharged
and registers fine in my 30D) or the dreaded ERR 99 message.

I'm planning to send it to the Canon service center on NJ for a repair
estimate, but I am thinking a repair wouldn't be cost-effective.

Has anyone else ever had this problem?
