NOVEMBER 1918
Paris,
In front of the hospital the furious crowd roars:
"A mort Guillaume!", Death to Guillaume!"
At the first floor a patient in agony.
His delirious spirit sees the crowd break into
the hospital, seize and kill him. And in last
spasms of terror he dies, lynched in his soul.
For, while his name is Guillaume, Guillaume
Apollinaire to be precise, he ignores that
it's the eve of November 11, that Germany is about
to capitulate and that it's another Guillaume,
Wilhelm von Hohenzollern, the defeated Emperor,
whom the crowd is claiming.
