Percy,
Good news. I have just finished talking to the Sport Pilot project
manager Sue Gardner and here is the rule. If you are flying with a
special issuance license, for instance the 67.401.and at the present
time you hold that license then you are O.K. You can either let it
lapse and qualify for the Sport Pilot program or you can continue to
use your AME and do as you have done over the years. It does not matter
if you have been denied in the past. What is revelant here is your
current status, and that is that you are current NOW. I am flying
under a special issuance due to my use of coumadin, but if my AME tells
me that I should not be flying I will hang it up (at 78).
I have had a good run and will walk away with a smile on my face.
The 415-D controversy is another matter. Can you revert your D back
to a C or CD. That all depends. If your data plate says D and your
airworthiness certificate says D and you are listed in the registry as a
D, your goose is cooked. If you are listed in the registry as a C but
you actually have D, and your airworthy certificate says C, and your
data plate is C, and nobody knows but you and your logbook, all things
are possible. Your airworthiness certificate is the key here. It all
depends on your propensity for being legal and following the
rules...But then again, even the experts disagree.
