I remember seeing the plane with the large engine. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was 135 hp he put in it. To do this, he had to butcher up the cowling to cover the larger engine. He also had to add another wing tank in each wing - he put the new 9-gal tank in each wing, outboard of the preexisting tank. He had to add the extra tank because of his much increased fuel flow when he tried to fly faster. I wasn't able to pin him down on how fast it would go. I think he was embarrassed by how little the max speed changed. He admitted to me that there was surprisingly little change in airspeed but said it climbed like a banshee. Yet at Oskosh they judge the planes that are the most orginial. Yet not one can be like it came from the factory. The only Luscombe's that can qualify for the sport cat. are the ones that come closet to orginial.(ragwing and no elec. with 65) So much for progress. My Dad always wanted to put a 150 hp in the coupe. I read once that someone did. Does anyone know of that?? Jim P ----- Original Message ----- From: "William R.
