I. too. had planned to fly my ALON to the Nationals in June. Subsequent to considerable flight planning and head-scratching, I decided not to fly my Coupe, but will get to Terrell some other way. I'm a bit further south in Florida than Ken, a bit older and heavier than him, too. It appears that the minimum distance I would have to fly is 1200 sm. Assumimng no wind, that would require a minimum of three stops enroute, four if I wanted to arrive with some fuel aboard(I do). Flying time each of two days might be as little as six hours, but predictable time at fuel stops could add several hours to that, as could even minor deviations around weather. Then, too, there is always the possibility of having your airplane disabled and grounded way out in the boondocks. Absence of an autopilot is a factor, too. Airline tickets plus a rental car at Texas would be cheaper than the fuel for the Coupe. Not all that important, but you can't wait until the last minute to make airline reservations. Of course, I'm referring to flying from Florida to Texas, not the route you are considering, and there is no necessity for me to make the trip in two days. However many considerations are the same. I am quite sure there are Coupers who have considerable experience doing what you want to, in a Coupe like yours, and over the terrain you want. I'm confident you"ll be hearing from them here on the Flyin site. Good luck.

Scott,

I've flown my Alon between Missouri and Florida 3 times, almost 1000 miles and a 2 hour day. I flew a 415-D from Florida to Arkansas, about the same distance and time. I've had several other trips that were in the 600 mile range. I[m planning on flying my Alon from Florida to Texas for the Nationals this year.

It is pretty easy to fly 6 hours in comfort, maybe 9 hours, depending on the outside temp. It's amazing how much country you can cover in a day if the weather is good and you don't have a strong headwind. If you have a passenger it would be easy to do about 500 miles a day, 3 hrs in the morning and 3 in the late afternoon, and no one would get too frazzled.

The best plan is to be flexible. You never know when you will have weather issues, or just happen upon some location that is interesting and slows down your progress.
