Hi Scott,
I've done many long cross country trips in my Coupe.  Wausau WI to Tallequa, OK and back, Wausau to College Park, MD, then to Kittyhawk, NC and back, Wausau to Daytona Beach, FL and back, Wausau to Sun N' Fun and back, etc.  I like to stop for fuel, leg stretch & bathroom about every 2.5 hours.  I call Flight Service before departing each time to check winds aloft, weather ahead, TFR's, MOA's, etc.  I always take a passenger on the trips to have someone to chat with, fold charts and to point out interesting sights to.  That makes the trip much more fun.  We usually fly about 7.5 hours each day.  For a two day flight I plan a weather cushion of two more days, so I'm not desperate to get back and put myself into foolish situations.  Lack of an autopilot never bothered me (that's why I fly -- to fly, not to ride along and let a machine fly) and cost of fuel vs. cost of airline tickets never bothered me either (I fly for fun and adventure -- not what I have ever experienced on an airline flight.)  I have a total of about 900 hours of cross country time now, and have enjoyed it and hope to continue to enjoy it.
Take your time, have fun and fly safely.

Syd

Howdy -

How many of you have taken trips of 1000-1500 miles in your 'coupes?

How many hours a day did you fly and are there any words of wisdom
or anecdotes that you might share?

I'd like to take a trip from San Diego CA to the Seattle Washington area
next summer and would like learn more about long(er) distance travel in this vintage craft.

Also - has anyone flown a Navion? I just saw one a couple of days ago and was
intrigued.

Cheers

Scott
