That's statement is not entirely correct.  With an aircraft like the coupe, weight is probably not a factor, but I was surprised to learn that when gliders are competing in races, some of them have wing tanks that are filled with water to weigh them down.  It increases the L/D ratio and they glide faster and therefore further for each foot they go down than they would have without the extra weight.  I have no idea why this works this way, but it is an undisputable fact.  I'll bet we have some glider expert on this forum who can explain why.

Just remember that WEIGHT is not a factor (although in a Coupe this will not vary much) in how far an aircraft can glide. Aircraft always achieves max glide at a certain angle  of attack. 9772M
