Flying at an uncontrolled field (with high tension WIRES
about halfway down final) as I do, a lot of my landings are
power off.

Also, I see no reason to wait for a CFI or a BFR to practice
'simulated engine out.' DO remember carb heat and clear
the engine of course. But primary maneuvers, particularly
those that might save your bacon, should be a regular part
of every pilot's periodic practice routine.

Close the throttle abeam the numbers, start turning for the
runway shortly after, keep the speed up, adjust to final
airspeed with pitch about 50 yards from the threshold
and Bob's your uncle.

At our field, you'll see Stearmans and J3Cubs and similarly
forward-vis challenged planes do the same thing.

Just remember to keep turning towards the runway and to
'push' to the runway (i.e., keep that nose down) until you're
really ready to round out. As someone else said, don't aim
for the threshold, if you have 800 feet or more left, you'll get
down, even if you're maybe 10MPH fast.
