Hi Ralph::

I went to an impeccable resource to obtain the answer (Ask Jeeves) Who
sez:: the density of gasoline will change with increasing temperature
since
its volume increases but not its mass.
I would think that the overflow vent in your Alon is plugged or sumpin.
The
overflow vent is visible just below the neck in the header tank.

When you examine other fuel systems in aircraft the Alon fuel system is
incredibly simple and efficient, when it all works. No tank switching
valves, good plumbing practices, no low spots? to induce fuel starvation
via
trapped air. Automatic fuel balance, and Automatic temperature bleed.

Problems occur when parts are added or eliminated, with little knowledge
of
their necessity in the system by others, and we as owners are not exactly
sure just what belongs, and what doesn't!
I would take the time and research the fuel system to see what is supposed
to be there, and what isn't, which modifications have been done and which
haven't. Lynn has a real handle on the modifications, pro and con, over
the
evolutionary lifespan of the Aircoupe.
