Thanks to all on the excellent advice given. Since the spinner is not required equipment, we will likely remove it to see if that improves the vibration situation. We also plan to dynamically balance once a new/replacement spinner is installed and other potential vibration sources have been investigated. Does anyone have a used/new spinner for a metal McCauley prop on a taper shaft C-85 or a source for one other than Univair (price is ... ouch!)? What has happened so far is that the prop was removed by one of my A&P caretakers to put it in a better position for hand propping (if necessary). When the prop was reinstalled, it was noted that the prop nuts bottomed out on the hub bolts. The nuts were replaced and washers added and retorqued. It was reported that the vibration seemed reduced during the subsequent run-up check, but the aircraft hasn't flown yet since reclocking the prop. If anything interesting follows, I will post for everyone's benefit. The C-85 installed has a taper shaft.
